Jones Act Seaman Injuries

The Jones Act is a federal statute protecting crew members working within the maritime industry, which provides a remedy against their employers or organizations for negligence, recklessness, or inaction. If you are employed to work onboard a ship, tugboat, yacht, or any other vessel operating on navigable waters, you may be covered under the Jones Act: this includes crew members, deckhands, masters, pilots, and commercial fishermen.

Since the LHWCA was enacted, Congress and our courts have expanded coverage to many more injured maritime workers—not just dock workers.
